Lotos MIG140 Review

Overview

The Lotos MIG140  is well suited for home use and small workshops and is a great option for beginners looking to weld steel up to 1/4 inch. The MIG 140 is easy to set up as Lotos boast their 10-minute setup time, they’ve also upgraded it for 2017 with a couple of additional features including a 2T/4T button. It’s a reliable device that’s really great value considering what you get.

Usability

The control panel on the front of the machine is user-friendly and easy to understand. The power switch is positioned in the top-left of the panel, underneath this are two dials to change voltage and wire feed speed, and on the right there are two digital displays which show arc volts and wire inches per minute. The digital display is a nice feature but not I don’t find it that necessary. Lotos have also updated the welder with a 2T/4T switch to give you extra versatility with your welds for long time welding.

With the Lotos MIG140 you can weld steel and stainless steel from 24 gauge to 1/4 inch with the option of MIG and flux-cored welding. You can also weld aluminum but will have to purchase an additional spool gun and there’s a door chart on the inside of the machine to help you select the right settings

Power

The MIG140 has a power output which rages from 30A to 140A and a duty cycle of 20% at 90 amps, which is certainly powerful enough for almost any household project and small workshop. The MIGS140 runs off an input voltage of 110v, so it should be used with your household power outlet.

Transport

The MIG140 has a weight of just 54 lbs and has a large built in handle on the top which means it’s not too heavy to carry around. If you want maximum ease of transport then you can put it on a wheeled cart, but if you’re just having it at home in your garage then you probably won’t need one.

Price

The MIG140 is one of the more affordable 140A welders and which makes it a good choice for those just starting out welding. The performance really close to other welders in the same category but it’s quite a bit cheaper and is still a solid welder that I don’t hesitate recommending. The warranty isn’t as long as most other 140A welders and Lotos offer just a 1-year warranty, but it has a 30 day 100% satisfaction money-back guarantee.
